Pastor Matt Atherton

Role at SouthWinds: Worship Pastor. I lead all of our instrumental and vocal ministries. I also oversee many aspects of our technical ministry.

Started on Staff: November 2004

When and How I Became a Follower of Christ: My freshman year of college. After hearing a speaker and some personal study I decided that it was not enough to have head knowledge of God. I knelt down in my dorm room and told God that I would follow Him wherever he wanted me to go.

Favorite Book of the Bible: Romans, Judges

Favorite Movie: Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan, Blackhawk Down, (I love man movies)

Favorite Sports Team: The St. Louis Cardinals, Dallas Mavericks, Denver Broncos (One team for everywhere I have lived…except California)

Recommended Reading: “The Radical Reformission,” by Mark Driscoll; “Desiring God,” by John Piper; “Blue Like Jazz,” by Donald Miller; Novels by Ted Dekker

What I like Best About my Ministry: Watching people connect with God in an intimate and authentic way.
